The Bombay Canteen-Mumbai

1

One of the places that I really wanted to try in my short stay in Mumbai was The Bombay Canteen restaurant. The place isn’t easy to find, taxi drivers might get lost, so get your map on your phone ready to show them the way. And even when you reach the place, taxis aren’t allowed to enter, so you have to do a little bit of walking which we didn’t mind at all.

From the outside the place looks small, but from the inside it’s really wide and it has many tables for busy days/nights. We went there  between 3pm and 6pm where they serve light menu. Lunch is between 12 and 3pm and dinner is after 6pm. I was kind of disappointed because I wanted to try their famous dishes but we ended trying delicious dishes.

We ordered the Banghali Pav and the Beef Wrap, along with Seafood Salad. All dishes turned out t be amazing, especially the Seafood Salad.

The service was amazing, really great waiters and very friendly. They’d explain to you every dish because they know you’re a tourist and want to know more.

A must try when in Mumbai.

Elephanta Island-Mumbai-India

1

One of the places that was on my list-to-visit is Elephanta Island. It’s a place of worship that is located inside 5 caves in an Island called Elephanta.

We took the morning ferry from Gateway of India which was 5 minutes walk from our hotel The Taj Palace and hopped in immediately. We got the ferry tickets from men selling them while you are being checked for security purposes.

The ferry ride took around 1hr and 15 minutes. And a lot of walking was ahead of us. As we were walking, you get to meet villagers or local people selling some food and stuff.

When you get closer to climbing the stairs of the mountain you’ll find so many small shops/kiosks/tables on your left and right where people sell so many goods. The way up to the caves is very tiring, at first you’re excited you won’t feel a thing but later on you’ll start to get tired. You’ll find restaurants up there if you want to rest later on.

We reached the place and booked tickets for the caves. The place was really huge and looked amazing. Loved every bit of it and how all these statues were carved on the walls of the caves from the inside.

The first cave is the biggest one, cave number 2,3,4, and 5 were okay.

It was totally worth it.

Around Mumbai-India

I just came back from Mumbai last week and I have to say that it won’t be my first and last visit. I loved the city very much and fell in love with its people and noise. The streets and lights are just so beautiful.

Even though it’s crowded and the beggars are very annoying, still, I loved it and would go back again if I had the chance to.

We stayed in Taj Palace Hotel located in Colaba. The hotel is really amazing and the location is more than great. So many markets and shops are minutes away by walking.

I didn’t go to many places because my stay was only for 3 nights, but I have to say it was more than enough in Mumbai. My next visit I’ll go to Delhi, Jaipur, Udaipur and Kashmir. Those cities are rally beautiful and worth the visit.

In Mumbai, we went to Crawford Street where we bought great Indian spices. Highly recommended.

I took pictures here and there from my short trip to Mumbai which I’ll share them with you in this post. And the next posts will be about Elephanta Island and the restaurants I’ve tried.

Jumeirah Messilah Beach Hotel Family Vacation

1

Last week, I’ve decided to surprise the family and get away from everyday life and just enjoy our time away from our daily routine. I booked one night at Jumeirah Messilah Beach which looked very suitable for a family with a toddler aged almost 3 years old. I wanted to take my husband away from all the troubles of his work and Jana to enjoy the beach and pool activities.

One might think that one night is not enough but to me it was hehe 😛 I got very tired going after Jana and looking after her in the heat under the burning sun while she enjoyed her time in the kids pool. Yes, it was worth it looking at that big huge smile on her face running and screaming out of joy but you know, I had my limits so one night was great.

We had an early check in around 1:30pm. Took our luggage to our room in the 2nd floor, changed and went to Olio to have lunch there (previous post). While we were heading to Olio, we passed by the swimming pools and Jana went crazy. We finished lunch, headed upstairs to change and then we went downstairs again where Jana had all the fun in the world. She didn’t want to leave that pool at all. It was lots of fun with all the splashing and games. I enjoyed watching her have fun.

We got out of the pool around 5:30pm, changed for her and she fell asleep til 7:30pm. We had light dinner at Mint Cafe near the blue fountain and then we went to Sindbad’s Kids Club where you can leave your kids to have fun if they are 5yrs and above or accompanied by someone if they are younger. I stayed with Jana for 30 minutes or so because later we had other arrangements.

The weather became nice around 12am so we got our snacks and we stayed in the garden til 2am. Hubs and I chatting while Jana ran around. It was nice.

The breakfast buffet opened at 6:15am and we were there around 6:20am because we couldn’t sleep and we were very hungry. The variety of food was really good and the food was really delicious. They also had great choices of cereals for kids and Nutella milk to add on. I chose that for Jana which she loved a lot. And then we went to the pool around 7:30am lol 😛

After that, I took her the room, gave her a shower and off to bed. Then I headed to Talise Spa to enjoy my time (next post).

Now regarding the room, we got the regular one which accommodates 2 persons and 1 child up to 4yrs. It was decent and spacious. Loved the bathroom, kinda big and had everything in it. The room had a coffee machine with coffee and tea capsules, safety box and the bed was really comfy.

Welldone by Midpoint Experience-Istanbul

1

Just before going to the airport, I wanted to visit one place that I had on my list in this short trip. I’ve heard and seen a lot about Zorlu Centre-Istanbul. So we decided to end my last day in Istanbul there (I was returning back alone). We arrived there around 4pm and we were very hungry because we didn’t have a decent breakfast due to furnishing and other house chores.

We saw the first restaurant in front of us and we went inside without even checking the name 😀 yes, we were THAT hungry.

The decoration of the place looked beyond chick and elegant, modern and beautiful, colourful and full of life. We wanted to sit outdoors because the weather was really beautiful that day but it was full so we sat inside and we started exploring the menu. They had, Italian, American, Turkish and other cuisines. The variety of dishes was really good. We had from each cuisine a dish 🙂

We chose Iskender Kabab served on eggplants, Welldone Steak, Caramelised Onion Pizza and the appetiser was fried Goat Cheese served on a bed of apples with raspberry/strawberry balsamic sauce. The fried goat cheese combination with apples, balsamic and raspberry sauce was beyond amazing *Sigh* A killer and we finished it in seconds. The Iskender Kabab was the winner after the goat cheese. So tender, moist and DELICIOUS, not to mention the dressing and the eggplant sauce. The pizza was really good and light, the steak was also so good and yummy. We loved everything about the whole place and I’d visit it again to try other dishes from their menu.

It is located in Zorlu Centre.

Hanedan Balik Experience-Istanbul

1

It was seafood kind of a day, so we asked our driver to take us to a really good seafood restaurant and boy he did take to a very good and fancy seafood place. We wanted to sit outdoors because the weather was really beautiful that day, rainy and not that cold.

It’s not a regular restaurant that you can wear anything to it and just head there. It’s very fancy and high class that almost everyone was wearing dresses and suits but who cares anyway 😉

We chose 3 kinds of appetizers, and my favourite is the stuffed mussels yum yum, 6 pieces of grilled jumbo prawns and 1 kilo of grilled seabass fish. Just that came around KD 60. The price doesn’t make sense at all but it was a new experience and the food tasted really really good but I wouldn’t go back to the place because I’d find the same kind of food for a lesser price.

If you’re going there as a couple then go ahead and try it, the romantic atmosphere will make you happy 😉 but if you have kids or elderlies, then I wouldn’t recommend the place for them.

HuXo Experience-Akbati Residence-Istanbul

1

The purpose of my last short trip to Istanbul was to buy furniture for our apartment. My family bought an apartment last January in Akbati residence, which is a huge new compound after Behceseher area, and it is highly secured that it’s completely safe to walk in the compound after midnight. Many cafes, restaurants, bars, grocery shops, tailors, salons and a cute mall called Akbati Mall surround the compound itself. All that is just within feet from our apartment.

On a very busy tiring day, after we’ve finished cleaning, washing, arranging dishes and stuff in the apartment, we wanted to have lunch asap at 6pm (We haven’t eaten anything all day, imagine!). I looked from our balcony in the apartment and suggested we try the restaurant at the corner and everybody said yes.

The place looked so modern and chic that you’d think you’d have to pay a lot of money just for a couple of dishes but that was totally the opposite. The staff was very welcoming, one of them spoke Arabic so it wasn’t a problem dealing with them in English as not all of them speak English very well. We choose our table, it was almost empty because at 6pm nobody eats lunch or dinner, it usually gets crowded after 8pm til midnight.

We ordered Salmon Bruschetta Salad which came to be a huge dish and unexpected. Salmon Pasta, Grilled Salmon and a Burger dish (most of our dishes had salmon). Loved the Bruschetta A LOT, it was huge, satisfying and fulfilling. The pieces of salmon were very satisfying unlike some restaurants, they bring small little pieces of smoked salmon and that’s it. The salmon past was also so nice and delicious, creamy and tasty. My grandma loved her grilled salmon that she ate it all and didn’t share lol. My aunt said the burger was cooked to perfection and that it was delicious. We all loved our dishes and didn’t complain about anything. The bill came out to be around KD 20 which is very reasonable.

I’d visit the place again when I’m in town next time to try other dishes.

Haskral Hatay Sofrasi-Istanbul مطعم الملك-اسطنبول

1

This restaurant was recommended by so many people and a lot instagramed about it and said it serves good Turkish food. I don’t like going to place where I see a lot of Kuwaitis and people from the region when I’m travelling but I wanted to visit this place to try the food and it was totally worth it.

We arrived around 6pm and it was crowded mashallah and by 7pm it became full house and a waiting list started. All waiters speak Arabic, so it wasn’t a problem dealing with them.

I wanted to try the dish that is cooked inside salt and presented to your table with flames 😀 That dish turned out to be REALLY delicious and was worth the wait (took 30 minutes to cook). I loved it and I’m recommending it to my friends and family who are going there, eat it with their fresh yogurt, yum yum. We also ordered pistachio kabab, amazzzzing. Just imagine pistachio and kebab yum yum. Their appetisers were also good. Loved the whole experience and would go there again when I’m in Istanbul soon.

Istanbul at Night

1

There some cities that get really boring at night and scary like Los Angeles, London, New York and more but Istanbul is not one of those cities. It is a very alive city and it doesn’t sleep. It is completely safe to walk alone at midnight and the people there are very friendly. They weren’t like that the past couple of years but they have changed.

One of the places that I like visiting at night is Sultan Ahmet. That place is beyond amazing with all the lights, the big fountain, the mosques and the darwish dance along with a good cup of tea/chay.

Ortakoy is one of the places that I like going to at night. Seeing the lights of the famous bridge sparkle in front of your eyes, eating their famous potato with all the fatty ingredients, just walking around or eating at one of their famous restaurants. It’s your choice but just walking around the place makes it fun.

Also Taksim/Istiklal street is a vivid and crowded streets filled with cafes, restaurants, shops and so many more but I don’t like going to it if I’m not staying in the area because it’s really annoying getting their, the streets are always jammed/crowded. Try it for a day and spend your time their from morning til evening.

Aşşk Kahve Experience-Istanbul

 1

I’ve heard a lot about this cute little cafe facing the Bosporus and I really wanted to try so badly in this very short trip. I didn’t want to go back home without trying it and telling everyone about it.

We went there around 11am on Friday morning and I was so worried that we won’t have a table to sit on and enjoy their delicious breakfast. To my surprise, we found a table in the garden but not close the sea, well who cares as long as I’m enjoying the lovely weather and food (next time I’m going their very early).

We started with chay til they prepare our order. Our order was; cheese platter, thick cream (qesh’ta) with honey, own fried halloumi cheese, olives, fresh tomatoes and cucumbers, 2 eggs in a clay pan, fas (the reddish egg in the clay pan) and bread basket that comes as a compliment and is refilled whenever you want.

I LOVED the Fas eggs, so creamy, tangy and delicious. A must try. Their cheeses were beyond amazing, they have so many delicious kinds of cheeses that you want to try them all but unfortunately my stomach can hold little food these days 😛 but anyways, i took them as a takeaway and tried them later on in the car 😀

The price was ok, but totally worth it for such amazing food. The atmosphere was so nice, birds were singing, trees were dancing and people were eating and listening 😀 Oh how I’m missing this place right now.

If you’re visiting Turkey anytime soon, try this place for BREAKFAST only.

Istanbul In The Morning اسطنبول الصبح‎

1

I’ve just arrived back home from a very short trip to one of my favourite city Istanbul. This wasn’t my first visit, actually it was my 3rd and even though I know every place in this city, I discovered new and amazing places in this visit. Unfortunately, it wasn’t all fun. I went with my aunt and grandmother to buy furniture for the apartment we’ve just purchased 2 months ago in Akbati Residence. It was a very tiring trip but in the same time, we had so much fun.

Now, let’s talk about Istanbul in the morning. What are the places that you can enjoy in the morning. Well, my favourite place is Sultan Ahmet area where you spend your entire day exploring the area. You can go to The Blue Mosque, Aaya Sofia, Topkabi Palace, Basilica Cistern, The Grand Bazaar, The Masry Bazaar (make sure to buy Turkish coffee from Mehmet Afendi), eat in their famous restaurants,  Khorasani is one of the best restaurants which I’ve tried 2 years ago and wrote about it on the blog.

Also you can go to Istiklal road and enjoy walking their, feeding the pigeons and buying some fresh flowers from the sellers in the streets. Enjoy a cup of coffee in one of their lovely cafes or a cup of tea=chay.

You can also enjoy shopping in their huge malls such as; Historia Mall, Zorlu Centre, Mall of Istanbul, Akmerkiz, Kanyon Mall and Trump Tower Mall. I loved Zorlu and Mall of Istanbul a lot.

Hong Kong Round 2

1

The last stop in our one month trip was in Hong Kong. Because we were flying with Cathay Pacific, our regular transit would be in Hong Kong. My husband suggested that we stay a couple of nights there but I wasn’t keen on it but I said yes because he wanted it. The reason i didn’t want to stay there because I was so broke, beyond poor and didn’t have any money to spend after leaving California 😛 So why stay in a city where you can’t spend some money, right? And the weather in the city isn’t for walking or doing outdoors adventures, the humidity was so overwhelming that sometimes I felt I couldn’t breath :/

But that doesn’t mean that I didn’t get to try something new. Well, there was this French Cafe/Restaurant that has recently opened in Harbour City which is just few steps away from our hotel. I’ve always wanted to try the flower ice cream but of course I have to travel to France first. Not in Hong Kong because France was there 😛 We searched for the cafe and it wasn’t that difficult to find in this huge mall. It’s called Le Cafe de Joel Rebuchon (Too difficult to memorise). And I got my flowery ice cream 😀
