Elephanta Island-Mumbai-India

One of the places that was on my list-to-visit is Elephanta Island. It’s a place of worship that is located inside 5 caves in an Island called Elephanta.

We took the morning ferry from Gateway of India which was 5 minutes walk from our hotel The Taj Palace and hopped in immediately. We got the ferry tickets from men selling them while you are being checked for security purposes.

The ferry ride took around 1hr and 15 minutes. And a lot of walking was ahead of us. As we were walking, you get to meet villagers or local people selling some food and stuff.

When you get closer to climbing the stairs of the mountain you’ll find so many small shops/kiosks/tables on your left and right where people sell so many goods. The way up to the caves is very tiring, at first you’re excited you won’t feel a thing but later on you’ll start to get tired. You’ll find restaurants up there if you want to rest later on.

We reached the place and booked tickets for the caves. The place was really huge and looked amazing. Loved every bit of it and how all these statues were carved on the walls of the caves from the inside.

The first cave is the biggest one, cave number 2,3,4, and 5 were okay.

It was totally worth it.
